Bennington, New Hampshire

Bennington, which derived its name from Gov. Benning Wentworth, was one of the last townships to be incorporated, it having been a part of nearby Hancock until 1842 when it received its charter. It shares Crotched Mountain Ski Area with neighboring Francestown, but claims lovely Whittemore Lake all to itself. The town's main industry is the Monadnock Paper Mills. Housed in a group of low brick structures, and situated on the banks of Contoocook River, the paper mills add to the beauty of the town as well as its social welfare. The quality of the paper is the pride of its employees. Population 1,453
